Positive Effect of Trump

Which Democratic Senator? There aren't all that many of them at this point, so the name should be familiar...

Just to keep perspective...there are 100 Senators.....
52 are registered Republicans; 46 are registered Democrats; 2 are Independent but usually vote with Democrats. Eleven States have a combination of one Rep. and one Dem.

I can't remember which Senator. It was on Meet The Press and he was saying that Trump getting elected "could" have a positive effect in facilitating change in Democrats but the establishment didn't seem to be getting the alienation of some people at this point. Of course this is his opinion and I am paraphrasing.

I seen a sound bite on this but it was coming from the top of the DNC. They added that the Democrates need to grow up. Mainly to get better organized and get with the program to take 2018. The parties are devided. Trump himself devided the Republican party for the simple fact, he is only a Republican on a piece of paper. Not that long ago, a Democrat. He was a populist candidate running under a Republican banner. Or, should I say Bannon?

The Democrats were split with the Hillary, Bernie battle and if it wasn't for some dirty deals between Hillary and the DNC, Bernie may well have been the candidate and not Hillary. This split the party quite a bit.

Both parties need a lot of fixing and with Trump in there, I don't see the Republican party doing so. All the Democrats are trying to do is to get people to vote their side in 2018 because of Trump but I don't see any activity to fix the party.

A positive of this tread: it made me discover John Oliver - I love his "last week tonight".
I listen old episode of it until 2 in the morning last night!

American should seriously consider to:

Get rib of the electoral college - they were created for avoid inexperienced populist to take power. They definitely don't do their job!

Get rib of the "winner take it all" - it's simply anti-democratic!

question like that, how much seat democrate would have had without the "winner take all' rule?

That is right there was a lot of division in the Democrats with Bernie and Hillary. This helps me understand a bit clearer the division, and the alienation, he was talking about. Bernie was drawing in some different people related to his ideas.

Monday 20 Feb 2017 is Presidents day in USA. It originated to commemorate George Washington's birthday on 22nd but was moved to the 3rd Monday in February.
Given the latest scandals from the current White House he'll probably turn in his grave and have it moved to after 2021.

Breaking News....

"A Russian spy ship spotted about 70 miles off the coast of Delaware on Tuesday has begun "loitering" 30 miles off a US Navy submarine base in Connecticut,
The ship was the Viktor Leonov, an intelligence-gathering ship that can intercept intelligence from nearby transmitters with a variety of sensors, as well as measure US Navy sonar emissions.
"We are aware of the vessel's presence," Lt. Col. Valerie Henderson, a Defense Department spokeswoman, told Business Insider on Tuesday.
"It has not entered US territorial waters. We respect freedom of navigation exercised by all nations beyond the territorial sea of a coastal State consistent with international law," Henderson said.
US Navy spy ships conduct similar missions near Russia and in international waters around the globe, but usually in waters near US allies."

Someone also said they spotted Michael Flynn, on a stand-up surfboard, paddling furiously out to sea....

'More trouble at Mill'......I'm reminded of the song...."Another one bites the dust..."

WASHINGTON, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Fast-food chain executive Andrew Puzder formally withdrew his name from consideration to be U.S. Secretary of Labor on Wednesday amid mounting concerns he could not win enough Republican support to get confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
"After careful consideration and discussions with my family, I am withdrawing my nomination for Secretary of Labor," Puzder said in a statement.

More news.....
Does this correspond to the idiom of 'deserting a sinking ship'....

President Donald Trump's choice for national security adviser, retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward, has turned down the offer, a senior White House official said on Thursday.
Harward was offered the job after Michael Flynn was fired by Trump on Monday for misleading Vice President Mike Pence over his conversations with Russia's ambassador to the United States.
The White House official said Harward cited family and financial reasons for opting not to take the job.

I wonder could Trump be impeached for mental instability ?
letter to the New York Times, 35 mental health professionals warned that the "grave emotional instability" indicated in Mr Trump's speech and actions made him "incapable of serving safely as president".They said experts had remained silent because of the Goldwater rule, but that it was time to speak out. "This silence has resulted in a failure to lend our expertise to worried journalists and members of Congress at this critical time. We fear that too much is at stake to be silent any longer."

If you are talking about SNL, I agree the political comedy on the show is much improved, even outstandingly hilarious, since the Trump administration took office.

I was having the same thought so searched and came up with these amusing facts linked below....maybe I'll save my current impression of Trump until I can see what else he will come up with.

https://www.factretriever.com/us-presidents-facts

He said something at the press conference 'that he is just doing some things that are popular with the people'. He did not use the word populist with its sometimes negative connotations. Populist ideas are not always negative. As opposed to as the elite we know whats best and once we get elected we follow our own agenda. I guess thats partly why he was elected.
The US is sure divided along bipartisan lines. He said he didn't create this it has been there for a long time. I notice the media has been on him since the start, sometimes for good reasons. I noticed with SNL , comedy in the US, they were way harder on John McCain when he was running then Barrack Obama. A lot of media personalities are democrats. The level of divide in the US really surprises me.

I think what Kratos meant is that observing Trump’s Presidency so far is almost like watching TV Sinetron.
Trump campaigned as a disrupter and now he's governing by conflict and drama, total chaos which isn't surprising he picked up some tricks from TV reality show.
He lives up to his promise that he is gonna hit people so hard, their heads would spin they wouldn't know what the hell happened.

So true. I've been watching video of the press conference (or "presser"...is that what the kids are calling it these days?) It's interesting how much Trump deflects questions using several strategies: attack the questioner, blame someone else, change the subject, or (a subcategory of subject-changing) boast about himself.

A high school teacher once complained about my son that arguing with him was like trying to "wrestle with a porcupine." Frankly, I think my son is a total piker compared to Trump.

All Trump has done is throw out lie and mistruths. One after another. Accuse media of being fake when he himself has created the most false statements. Now yelling about leaks and ignoring the true crimes that were committed all the while sitting back and not acknowledging how he supported leaks about his opponent. Even some from Fox news are calling him unhinged. I read even his wife isn't too happy on how her life has now turned out. It seems, maybe he isn't the manager he would like people to think he is. In business he was smart enough to put people in place that could run his business, in the White House, his ego got in the way and surrounded himself with those who may be able to run a business but certainly can't run a nation. Unless you are planning on running it into the ground.
