So who's here

Anyone seen Macvert over here?

thanks for thinking of me Happyman, that overwhelming feeling in my life of total insignificance is in slight remission,.... actually been a bit crook after being hammered with unknown insect bites accompanied by a day or so of fever & headache. I have managed a post or 2 though which as usual I reserve for the important stuff like "porridge'

That doesn't sound like fun. Where were you when you got bitten? We don't really get many interesting critters around the house these days, except for those strange crickets that the missus say bite.

I refrained from commenting on the porridge, as my post would have been something like "I like porridge, when it tastes good". I occasionally think quality while I am quantitying away. Glad to see you.

I'm here too.
I see some previous entertaining member who managed to get banned for silly things are here. What about Hombre and Pimpin (or something like that) any sign of them?

After a years absence and urged on by an e-mail from Puspawarna and Atlantis, I'm in, although reporting in from Honolulu now.

Pony & John?
John is on vacation. He has promised to join the posting crowd since the inception. We have no doubt that Pony will also join us but we weren't so far able to get in direct touch with him. There is some times I think that he was fed up with the posse owning the other place

I used to breed crickets as food for a bearded dragon (I know what you're thinking but no, it's got 4 legs…. haha) & I was never bitten by a cricket or the bearded dragon.

This latest incident happened while asleep in my own bed, it's been a bit of an ongoing saga after moving to a new rental property about 3 months ago. At first after being stung we had to be extra vigilant against mosquitos.

Then I was attacked by what we at first thought were very small mosquitos getting through the flyscreen but turned out to be man-eating gnats coming from the bathroom floor waste (they only went for sweet ol' me), what made this worse was that at the same time I was suffering my only ever bout of heat rash.

Now, out of the blue & after a couple of days rain we, I mean I, have been attacked yet again by something as yet unknown despite fumigating, closing doors after sundown, burning mosquito coils, applying repellent & eating abnormal amounts of garlic.

At first due to the severity of the stings / bites I thought it may have been the small jumping spiders that I've seen around the place but after a bit of research it seems highly unlikely because spiders don't feed on blood & just don't do that kind of thing anyway. I'm now thinking it's some different kind of resistant mosquito, anyone got any ideas about what I may be up against?

Yesterday in my desperation I finally put a hook in the ceiling, hung the mosquito net as well as all previous precautions & seem to have gotten through the night without suffering further assault.

…... & I haven't even mentioned the 2 larger variety of pest around here like the rat that tried to climb my leg after I surprised it in the middle of the night; ratdog took care of that bastard …. then there's our new landlord, a benign pest but that's another story.

Did you bring your own bed or was it already in the property? Could their be bed bugs? Or maybe you have some allergic reaction to some insect bites?

We bought a brand new mattress when we moved in, I should've mentioned that it wasn't bed bugs because they did crossed my mind & I know bed bugs but wouldn't last 5 minutes on a mattress that had them
Maybe allergic yes, whatever they are,

I also thought bed bugs. We had them once, not nice. I have heard of biting gnats, but never experienced one. I'm alright with that though... no need to share. I've been considering sealing the house, worried about zika and babies.

Bedbug bites feel like being eaten alive (by something you can't see) and they leave a red rash-like track across your skin where they've been biting ... unfortunately, I know more about them than I would ever want to ... spraying suitcases / luggage before and after traveling with something either specifically for bedbugs or even just lavender or cinnamon / clove mixed with water is a good precaution.

If you're sure it's not bedbugs or spiders ... well, the garlic may come in handy ... and you might want to sharpen some wooden stakes:

(edit) It's the same with me and my wife ... I get bit and bled all the time by nyamuk and all kinds of things, she says they almost never bother her at all ... SHE says it's because my blood is sweet ... and corrupted by all kinds of unhealthy dietary habits and putting bad things in my body ... so they like my "dirty blood". She's probably right ...

I would recommend for men a daily mini massage with cinnamon oil - Instead of wearing aftershave and other pefumes- nice sexy smell and tends to keep the nibblers away- even if you just rub it in your feet & ankles :) & other bits that get bitten.

AVOID genitals - bit of a sting/ burn... think : Great Fire of London
