I believe America still has one of the highest rates of church attendance in the world.

It has one of the higher for western countries, but not the highest and certainly not compared to undeveloped countries. Also a few isolated areas heavily skew the national numbers. The biggest is Utah and Mormonism, but some people don't consider them Christian. As far as Christianity, undeveloped countries have much higher rates of church attendance than developed countries. There seems to be a correlation between level of development and regular church attendance.

The negative correlation is between the education level of the population and church attendance.

The Indonesian Army reveal its newest white magic weapon.

How would an Australian soldier feel fighting alongside someone who is confident of victory because they have white magic in their ranks? I think I know how they'd feel fighting against them.

Since some week we have a new cat, probably abandonned on the corner of the road like many other we find every year.
This cat is "special", he don't like to be alone and will follow you everywhere inside or outside the house.
Right now he is somewhere around my feet playing with a rubber ball.

He is also a very good hunter, I saw him catc a chipmunk live in front of me (me indise looking through the window). He is still young, not still full size, I was not expecting him to catch it!

Yesterday he was outside and I saw him acting not like habitually. It catch my attention and I look more closely to him; he was playing with a mouse.
My daughter saw it too and ask to go outside... :noidea: why not.
Put her jacket and I follow her outside.
The cat play for an half hour with the mouse. In the last 5 mminute he was throwing it up in the air and trying to catch it before it land.
After an half hour of "playing" the mouse was not moving a lot anymore.

At this point I need to do something inside and left my daughter outside.
When I come back she was no more aside the cat and the cat didn't seem to be playing anymore.
I ask my daughter: Dimana Tikus? (Where is the mouse?)
and she answer me with calm: 'ikus 'akan (the mouse was eaten)
What?
I look around, no more trace of the mouse.
My girl answer me with so much calm, her who is the sublime comedian who will over react about everything and nothing, that I have trouble to believe what I heard. I ask her again:
Dimana tikus?
and she look at me with an expression like -I already told you- and repeat me the some thing: 'ikus 'akan
The cat eat the mouse?
YAAH!

And you told me that all relax! you creepy little one!

Yop! My soon to be 5 year old girl saw the cat eat a mouse right in front of her! and she had no special reaction like if it was the most normal thing on earth.
bah! Is it? no?

Police put up little resistance as an angry mob burns a local church in Aceh. From October last year apparently.

I watched a cat do that once with a baby bunny. It ate everything but the eyeballs. It just left the big bunny eyes sitting there in the driveway.

Mount Kemukus, or Sex mountain, not far from Solo Java is where Muslims from across Indonesia come to engage in adulterous sex in the hope of gaining good fortune.

Mark twain once said the differance between a house and a home is how content the cat on the pouch is.

But mark twain also said "mankind is just like a dog... if we cant eat it, have sex with it, we piss on it."

For (most of) Indonesian cat are dirty garbage scavenger and you better not touch one.
It's quite far of the western idea of having a cat at home... and my wife don't like the idea the cat could sleep in the bed of the kid.

The cat is new in the house so all story goes with him involved...

After a couple of day with the cat in the house, after the kid bringing him in their room for play for hour, the cat got an indigestion... a huge pooh half liquid. Since in, he always ask the door for when he need it. This time he had a bad digestion (maybe the chipmunk) it's excusable... but still, could he have not make this huge ppoh in the middle of the bed of the kid!

The wife was furious, I help to clean up, it was very disgusting.

From this day the wife declare the cat can't not go upstair anymore where all the bedroom are.
Do I already told you the cat don't like to be alone and follow people everytime he can?
The next day we were all upstair and there the cat join us...
the little one seeing him going upstair shout his name: Gros Minet (it's her who name him) and then grad him by the middle of his body.
I had time to turn the head and see her starting to swing, I shout her name! but too late, there goes the flying cat in the stair.
My little one give me a look, look at the cat running away, look back to me with pity eyes and start to cry.

It change nothing in between them, they are still very good friend and she will never trow him away in the stair... I hope!

For the rule of no cat upstairs, we are... heu... quite lax on it.
It's impossible I put the kid to bed without having the cat coming in the room. and night after night I put it back out and NEED to close the door of the kid.

I expect in some month the wife will change her mind and let the cat sleep with the kid.

On my first trip to Komodo in the early nineties I'd woken up at 3am needing to go to the toilet which meant a dash outside to the communal ablution block. At the bottom of my hut's step lay a big Komodo dragon baring my way. I scampered back inside and used a plastic bottle.

I think this train track vege market is in Bangkok. Space is certainly at a premium in the Big Mango.

See post #135

Are you sure it's not the train from Bandung to Jakarta...hilarious...as long as you're on the train.

Edit: Afterthought...I hope those new fast-trains to Bandung don't use those railway lines, like the above pictures, that I observed so close to hawkers and peoples bedrooms. The rush of air will suck the washing lines and all the hawkers stuff as it sweeps thru'....that will be a sight.

Fingertalk Cafe opened its doors last year in Tangerang and encourages customers to interact through sign language while there with the aid of sign sheets. It employs deaf people and for some employees it's the first job they've had.

One of my favored youthful pastimes was to stroll through junk yards graced with the relics of past motoring glory. Seems like that pastime has become an institution.

Punk Rock vs Sharia Law.

Being a punk isn't easy. Being a punk in Aceh is almost impossible. Harassed, beaten, arrested, held in Islamic moral training camps and considered outcasts by Aceh society, this small clan of Punk rockers fight hard to maintain their identity.
