Trump is widely admired for his bold, no-holds-barred use of language - his "honesty," "calling it like he sees it", etc. Funny how it's refreshing when he does it, but "a bit offensive" when someone who disagrees with him does the same thing.

However, the evidence suggests that a lot of people felt - wrongly, in my view, but that doesn't change their feelings - that they were disregarded by Clinton et al. The pundits are now full of Monday morning quarterbacking claims that Hilary never reached out to certain classes of people and that this is behind her loss. So, you have a point there.

I survived eight years of Bush jr, I'll survive this too.

I feel trump is an offensive piece of garbage that lacks basic human decorum when he talks and behaves like that too. Puspawarna, I have been discussing topics with you for years and usually appreciate your point of view. You didn't call trump a moron, you called all Americans morons.

Hey, I tried to dial it back a little - did I not just say "So, you have a point there"?

However, if you expect me to sing the praises of voters who just elected an ignorant narcissist, when I am genuinely worried about what is going to happen to them, you are asking far too much of me. I'm scared and I'm angry. I'm venting on a message board ferchrissake. Sorry if I'm not a angel whose posts meet the level of decorum you feel appropriate.

Intelligence is overrated a lot of times. While I agree wholeheartedly that voting Trump in is moronic, which means at least a simple majority of Americans are morons, I can confidently say that the vast majority of you are kind and generous. That counts, a lot. I'll take the good idiot over the evil genius any day of the week and twice on sunday.

Completely agree. It's not how much money you have, your intellectual prowess, your social standing or heritage - it's how you treat others. Having said that, we all have days where we just can't muster the effort to always say the right things.

One thing that has always confused me with the interwebby thing is how so many people can take it all so seriously and can be so wounded by anonymous participants of websites or forums not agreeing with them or even abusing them (different for children). Make your life more fun and carefree, please. You only get one.

Back to my wine chocolate and music.

I've a huge hangover. My love hate relationship with Bombay Sapphire continues..

Sorry to hear that, Mr. VanH. Enjoy yourself but don't be TOO hard on your liver, okay?

A hangover is your bodies way of telling you you were an asshole last night  ............ I always found bacon and eggs and a handful of vitamin B sorted things out.

Bacon!!! Are you trying to turn this into another religion thread?

I find 1 family size pizza consumed over the course of a day improves my outlook and condition markedly.

Is there some kind of Indonesian coconut, buffalo tongue, wing of bat concoction I should know about?

I've been pretty lucky on my trips to Jakarta only ever having had a cheap phone and cheaper sunglasses gone missing on separate occasions which I suspect were opportunistic thieves taking advantage while I wasn't paying attention when out and about.

I found the following video which highlights how brazen some thieves can be.

The CCTV can drag a bit so I'll include the following time stamps so anyone interested in watching can get straight to the thefts.

It seems the last incident is a gang, but hard to know if they just followed some random guy with a case or had known he was going to be there.

Looking at estimated voter turnout for the recent presidential election I noted forecasts predict around 58 percent. Numbers for the last Indonesian election shows a turnout of over 70 percent. I would have expected a higher number of Americans to vote than Indonesians as I assumed the American population to be less politically apathetic, better educated in relation to the importance of every vote, having a more convenient/superior voting apparatus so people can vote easily, a greater awareness of issues and political platforms etc.

If these figures are indeed a correct, what would explain the reason Indonesians are more engaged in their political process than Americans?

I think that might well be to do with Indonesia being fairly new to democracy. Being proud to be part of a country that is maturing and developing in this way - usually the people are proud to go vote.

I read somewhere that the US has one of the lowest voter turn outs of western democratic countries, perhaps if they took more interest they wouldn't be stuck with some president they don't really want

The U.S. is a republic not a democracy. They also have a mostly two party system. These lead to a lot of voter apathy. The U.S. also has a long history of voter suppression and hurdles so many people don't have the cultural value of voting. They are usually a little lower on the list.

Also Indonesia has a history of vote buying and voter fraud which can increase the numbers of people that actually vote and people say voted.
I believe almost 1/3 of voters in the 2014 survey admitted to vote buying and half did not know it was illegal.
Indonesia is very corrupt. Don't trust the numbers completely.

I disagree. Many post already have Threads related to the topics someone seems to want to post about. If you are can't or won't follow a thread and just wish to put everything in one general spot, what's the use of a Forum with sub channels? Look at the last few, someone could have easily followed and contributed to a current thread but instead elected to post here. Let's try to keep on track. This thread should have been dumped in the trash long ago.

I'm sure that dafluff is smirking while writing the above as I also have a sense of humor despite what others think. This thread is the joke!
