Cream with chemotherapy for basal cell carcinoma
You may receive a chemotherapy cream if the doctor does not excise or otherwise remove the basal cell carcinoma. It is a treatment for low-risk basal cell carcinoma that grows superficially.
The cream contains a medicine that kills cancer cells and does little harm to healthy skin. The drug is called fluorouracil. You should use the cream for a number of weeks.
You apply the cream to all the places where the basal cell carcinoma is located. Your skin may become red, itch or hurt where you apply the cream. Later a wound develops, with swelling and scabs. The wound will have healed one to two weeks after the treatment. Usually no scar is left behind.
The cream contains a medicine: imiquimod.
