Nuclear submarines and regional security.

I never heard or read that general Wiranto spoke those words. :noidea:
Must have been after the 2017 tensions….

The Chinese army will hold military exercises in the Taiwan Strait this weekend. This comes amid tensions between China and Taiwan following a visit by the Taiwanese President to the United States.

"The People's Liberation Army will conduct a combat exercise in the Taiwan Strait, north, east, south and west of the island of Taiwan and its airspace from April 8 to 10," a Chinese military statement said.

The Chinese state broadcaster CCTV announced today: "The exercises are focused on the ability to take control of the sea, airspace and information channels for deterrence and create total encirclement."

The American newspaper The New York Times wrote earlier this week about the 'secret documents' that leaked on social media. Journalists at The Washington Post discovered in these documents a report by the US intelligence services that allegedly showed that the Russian mercenary army (the Wagner group) was trying to buy weapons from Turkey before the war in Ukraine.

According to the report, members of the Wagner group had a number of meetings with Turkish representatives early February. They discussed the possibility of buying Turkish weapons and other military equipment. Which would be used in the war in Ukraine and in military actions in Mali, where Wagner is also active.

And Turkey is vetoing the Swedish participation in NATO. Now of course we‘re not sure if the Turkish government was aware of the meetings and if deals were really made or not.

The identity of the person who leaked highly classified documents from the Pentagon covering for instance the war in Ukraine, seems to be discovered. According to the American newspaper The Washington Post, it is not a spy or a whistleblower, but a gamer and gun enthusiast who apparently wanted to impress his online friends with office secrets.

The absurd thing was the documents appeared on a gaming website first. Where they didn’t get a lot of attention till they got more confidential and were picked up by mainstream media.

Not the first time on line gamers do this.
Guardian had an recent article on this, in the past one posted documents coming from the Challenger tank interior lay out because he considered that the one in the game didn't match the reality and he wanted the game designer to modify it.
Documents were copied from.the tank's operator manual.
Another case was a discussion about the rotation speed of the turret of the French Leclerc tank. Same, somebody posted a page from the manual to prove he was right.
Of course in both cases the info was less political than the recent one.
On the other hand I read (NYT) that between all government agencies and defense 1,250,000 people have the "Top Secret" clearance......
Sure there will be leaks nows and then !

They were picked off the gaming site by foreign interest and then reposted on other sites where the Post seen them. The majority if the gamers in that private group ignored the documents. They were there for gaming.

The actual person arrested for this leak was an US air National Guard guy. Needless to say he has destroyed his future and perhaps even some on his gaming friends.

Chocked that a military guy did not measure the possible consequences of his act.
Specially in the US, and in the actual environnement this will cost him many years in jail. Madness.

It got a very diverse reception. The Russian war and army bloggers were convinced the documents were fake or manipulated to mislead the Russian armed forces. And some European military experts thought the same. Many there thought the source was a disgruntled child of a Pentagon employee (“what the hell; gaming chat website?!”).

You have the regular nut case GOP politicians supporting him and his actions. Eastern Blok nations are calling it fake while it was them who released it publicly before calling it fake. The guy was trying to impress his friends on the chat board and got upset when nobody paid much attention it seemed to him. He made rants to members about being racist, anti semetic, anti government, and pro gun.

It was someone from the chat board that was interviewed by the Post. He refused to give the posters name or location because he was being looked for by the feds. I can imagine if the feds showed up at his house he was quick to offer up that information when they informed him of the problems he would face for not telling.

Here's what isn't registering to me. As a member of the Air National Guard one would normally only see active duty one weekend a month and a two week period per year. How fast were these documents gathered? He had to have them on his person if he was going to sit down and transcribe them for those in the chatboard. Later he only took pictures of the documents since it was faster and he posted those images.

I was on Air Force Security area and I can't understand how he got out of his building with anything he didn't arrive with. No phones allowed, no note pads, nothing you could record anything with. You walk through very sensitive scanners in and out. Security areas take security very seriously. They have sensors everywhere that things smaller then mice are noticed. Those go just beyond the Fenced or double fence.

I have a feeling while you may not hear about it publicly but some demotions and discharges will be coming down the line. Perhaps court marshals. You don't allow someone to walk out with documents without paying a price.

@fastpitch17 I haven't even seen the images of the documents, but I read a description that they look like papers haphazardly folded, as if they were smuggled out in pockets or undergarments.

Btw, according to the WP some leaked documents would state there is proof that the Chinese do provide Russia with weapons and parts. Even if they currently pinky promise the visiting German minister of foreign affairs they don’t.

China is a free and independant nation. They do what they want.
It ain't USA business to tell other nations what to do or not to do.

We already knew that one Chinese manufacturer of drones has been selling to Russsia but they claim that their drones are available to all so not meant for military purposes. It is also being reported that some of the documents posted on 4chan by russians were changed to give a more positive light on Russia and disfavorable light on the US. That could be true or US spin to cover.

All I know is there is one 21 year old Airman who has basically thrown his life away.

The NATO nations are free and independent. They do what they want. They are free to have opinions about who should be selling weapons to whom, and apply pressure (especially economic) to seek their desired outcomes.

Wrong, NATO nations are lackeys of the USA.
Sadly they have surrendered all sovereignty to the US and EU.
NATO (the N.A. stands for North Atlantic BTW..) was creative as a defensive forces against the USSR. It should have been dismantled in 91 after the breakup of the USSR.
Instead the US turned it into an OFFENSIVE organisation, that went put its nose in place they had zero reason to be (Afghanistan is an example).
And now the US would happily turn NATO against China ?
Shame on our European leaders, none of them having tve balls of saying "stop, enough is enough" !
