Mobil Rakyat...new cars

After renewing the GLC (let's say the SUV version of the C-class), Mercedes also updated the GLC Coupé.

The outside changes are, as so often, not shocking; the headlights and radiator grille are altered.

Inside there is more change, esp. on digitalization and entertainment...

You don't see this very often over here. I guess it's better than nothing:

The GLC is always 4Matic. And they have mild hybrid solutions on board.

There are three models, the 200, 300 and AMG. The prices are between 1.1 and 1.8 billion rupiah. Which seems (and is) very high, but if you compare to other countries with high taxes on cars (as The Netherlands for instance), the prices are almost the same.
.

Of course the whole Coupé SUV trend is one big hoax, just to please those who have a strong antipathy of the boxy SUV's. Yes they look better but are inferior on all characteristics as luggage space, headspace, etc.

To make up for that, and to create a sporty image, the Coupé version often only offers the more powerful engines.

But who said selecting a car is only a matter of the mind?

In Bangkok there is currently an International Motor Show.

Not so much news which is relevant to Indonesia, except:

New Honda Accord.

New Chevrolet Captiva.

NB: Obviously they also show the new Jimny etc.

Indeed it does look like it has some of the fortuner lines from the side.

Personally ,I would not buy anything from china which "my life depended on " . dodgy quality ,they even had no quams about poisening there own kids with adulterated milk powder .

In the past, many people under estimated Japanese and later Korean's car. We can see now, they dominate the markets.
My previous car was Peugeot 404, 405, 306 and 406 just before I move abroad.
The last time I bought the cars in 2015, I ruled out Chinese car though this car is quite popular here. I chose Japanese car (but made in Thailand) Nissan sentry and a US monster car Chevy suburban.
Next year, there is possibilities I return home Indonesia and in the market for MPV.
Whats in my head, do I need to spend Rp. 600M or probably more for my favorite 5008 or more realisticly to look on good MPV from China including Almaz which cost lest than 400M.

I’ve just never understood the appeal of Peugeot cars in Indonesia. They don’t seem stylish, and the cost seems a bit high for what you get.

In my time here I have only ever seen one Chinese vehicle on the road and that was about a month ago. This is in Jakarta; maybe they are more popular outside of the city? I wouldn't even consider one. Im sure resale price is near zero and the lifespan would be significantly cheaper due to build quality.
Most products I use that were made in China by international companies that control the supply chain are pretty good. But the equivalent ones made by Chinese companies who use inferior suppliers tend to break easily and not last. I for one wouldn't risk so much money on a Chinese car.

Peugeot is good car, at least in more than 2 decades when I used these cars everyday.
Not stylish? Probably for some but not all.
RR is not stylish neither beautiful to my eyes.
There's always an X Factor and subjectivity about the car.
It more difficult to understand people spend hundred thousand or million bucks for a noisy car, (seem) not comfy and you can only drive 30 - 40% of its performance or even less if in Jakarta.

Yes, there are a lot of different cars I wouldn’t buy in Indonesia.

Imported cars with large engines, high amongst them. I get to chuckle when I see a Ferrari or similar, stuck in traffic in Jakarta or Bandung. Sure, it looks pretty, but is very impractical.

Nobody buys a Ferrari because it's practical ?

This is another car you wont see that often, also since it's mainly developed for China and Taiwan. The Lexus LM, an advanced Toyota Alphard (the car for the sophisticated Ibu2 and selbritis who like to be droppen off at the mall):

It is in its standard version a four seater....

Another tank in a comparitive degree; the new Mercedes GLS.

NB: In their new nomenclature, GL (Geländewagen) precedes the letter of the class. So we have a GLA, GLC, GLE and GLS. (For SUV versions of A, C, E and S class.)

The GLB will follow shortly, but as said before, I don't expect that one in Indonesia.

I do like the new 508...

Only the (sabre tiger) daylight running lights are a bit too much I think. The interior is rather luxurious:

Even in a more basic outfit, without any options it doesn't look bad:

As so often, there is a longer version for the Chinese market. Still, I don't think it will be a big success.

Here In Egypt, new 508 only available with 1.6l petrol engine, still offer very good power compared to its competitor. Taxes for car with bigger capacity is very high. Only luxury cars are available with bigger engines.

The price for 1.6T GT line is 575K egp, approx. Rp. 470M. Not bad.
Have not checked the price in Indonesia.
