Michael vs Michael. 🎯 What a great game.

Interesting Belgian flag 🇧🇪

🙄

The way it’s going now in Europe2024, it should be a final between Germany 🇩🇪 and Spain 🇪🇸

Which the Germans obviously will win (cf. Lineker).

France 🇫🇷 is still a viable candidate but with Mbappé and his broken nose? Italy 🇮🇹 and esp. England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 have disappointed, just like Portugal 🇵🇹 and Belgium 🇧🇪. Also The Netherlands 🇳🇱 was not really convincing.

Anything can change of course.

Bad performances from The Netherlands, France and England in last night's games.

They qualified for the next round of course but it was all very painful.

The problem in the current setup of EURO2024 is that quite a lot of teams in 3rd position will continue. And they start calculating who they might meet in the next round etc.

Theoretically one the semi finals should be between England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and The Netherlands 🇳🇱 of course. But what non-performances so far.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s gonna be Switzerland 🇨🇭 against Austria 🇦🇹

Without a VAR ... Belgium would have won the game. Two goals cancelled.

It’s getting somewhat absurd. The whole argument of having an unfair advantage falls apart of course if you‘re offside with a 1 cm toe…

The ‘playing time’ is over. Since the start of the European Football Championship, the players of the German national team have been able to spend some time with their loved ones on a regular base. Now this is no longer the case. Focus on the final, not on the family is the new credo.

Unlike the English WAGs btw: after the win from Slovakia, the women were flown into Germany yesterday. In a fleet of no less than six (!) private jets.

At the same time as Euro2024, in the United States the Copa América is taking place. The group stage is now completely done.

The United States did not survive as host country group phase and must leave the Copa América after losing 0-1 to Uruguay. Therefore the US only finished third in their group and didn’t qualify.

So now all quarterfinals are known and ongoing. At a glance:

Argentina-Ecuador (yesterday, Argentina won)

Venezuela-Canada (today)

Colombia-Panama (tomorrow)

Uruguay-Brazil (tomorrow)

So Lionel Messi is in the semi-finals with Argentina, although it did need penalty kicks against Ecuador. Messi missed clumsily, but his team was rescued by goalkeeper 'Dibu' Martínez.

When I saw the German game I wondered why they even have all that video technology. 2 penalties that could have been seen without video technology and the referee didn't even bother to check. But yeah, what to expect from an English referee haha

Congratulations to Indonesia on getting its first gold - in the speed climbing. There couldn't be a sport better suited to Indonesians, because of all the time they spend as children climbing up coconut trees to get the coconuts.

The Netherlands overtook Great Britain and rose to sixth place on the Olympic medal table 2024. For such a tiny country, it's "luar biasa".

It certainly is. They did very well to win a gold medal in the women's marathon using an Ethiopian refugee. But then in the past many of the British medals were from "Mo Farah" who was a Somalian refugee. Maybe that is what Indonesia is doing wrong.
Jokes aside, winning both the men's and women's hockey is pretty impressive.

Sports like speed climbing. weightlifting, badminton, and archery should be prioritised over football. Despite the significant investment in football, the sport struggles to compete even in Southeast Asia, let alone in the Olympics.

In speed climbing, some Indonesian people get used to climbing coconut trees, Betelnut Palm since their childhood. Indonesians could also benefit from their generally shorter stature and lighter weight. These physical attributes can be advantageous when moving quickly carry your own weight against gravity. A good analogy is between orangutans and gorillas. Gorillas can not compete with orangutans when it comes to climbing trees.

Similarly, in weightlifting, shorter individuals have an advantage as they lift weights over a shorter distance against gravity compared to taller individuals.

Just my personal opinion.

What was the difference between the no 1 and 2 in male speed climbing? 1/100 of a second or so?

For the qualification of the World Cup football, Indonesia still has a chance.

It still has to play against China and Japan. Japan will be extremely difficult to beat; they are really superior in this group.

As you might remember, the Indonesian team, under the direction of minister and president of the football association, Erick Thohir, decided to charm Indo players abroad and get them to play for the national team. In an inventive way, the citizenship issue of these players was solved.

So now Kluivert, the Dutch coach who replaced the previous Korean coach, had the team play with ten (yes really, 10 !) football players who were born Dutch.

It must be said these players are not really from top teams in their current leagues. And the guys did not have a chance to play for the Dutch national team. So everybody happy. 🤔 Except perhaps the Indonesian professional football players?
