KITAS to KITAP conversion in the new evisa system

We are now at hari +37 since we applied and paid for the spousal ITAS to ITAP conversion. Stuck at ‘waiting confirmation.’

My KITAS expires in 8 days. Been told by multiple sources including the Mido chat system online that I won’t be charged for overstay, since we already paid the ITAP fee, but it’s still not a comfortable feeling to be facing overstay for the first time in my long and so far very positive history in the country.

I easily could leave and come back on a VOA but my fear is that would invalidate the whole conversion process. Then I’d have to apply for another KITAS and start over converting just so I can stay with my wife and kid in country. At the moment my tentative plan is to just stay and see this through… I keep trying to ask questions to their online chat system periodically and all they say is to wait, and they don’t mention anything wrong or missing. I’ve been told sabar terus.

I think you can relax. I am sure you will not be charged with overstaying while your Itas is being processed. Frustrating and worrying as it may be, in the fullness of time your application will be completed. Good luck.

... Every office and every officer within each office tends to have there own interpretation of the rules/laws.
With the online system I hope this situation will not happen anymore .
The old system where you went to the office was a lot less complicated ,
There were advantages and disadvantages too .
I'm not looking forward to doing my Unlimited/Lifetime Kitap in 2027 if it's got to be done on-line .
It seems there will be no face-to-face process anymore .
I'm a dinosaur , lucky to turn the laptop on let alone navigate all this modern technology .
Fortunately in Indonesia (or at least in Bandung) , you always can find somebody to do the scan , PDF files , ... At a nearby toko fotokopi/photcopy store (100 meters from my house) the owner can do all that for Rp2k each .

Have I run into you at immigration before? 🤣🤣

Both the Bandung office and the Ditjen office said it should take 8 days and to just wait for the thing to say it's all good to go. 🥹 Have you tried contacting the office in Jakarta? Although the waiting confirmation thing is supposed to be your local office where they go through your documents. (At least that's what it was for mine when they changed the status to pending and had me reupload everything)

I had a similar experience to yours in that my local office requested additional documents in a merged pdf, and this only after the initial submission. They were nice enough to send me an example of the pernyataan integrasi. This was hari +3 after I applied, which we promptly submitted.

It has since been with ditjen according to my local office. They never mentioned any 8 day time turnaround. In fact someone warned it could be 30 working days, which I suppose I am at or near.

By contacting Jakarta, do you mean through the online chat at imigrasi.go.id? Mido they call that? 😁

We have done that a few times over the last 30 days and they just say to wait. They assured us its in the office but can’t say more. If you have another way to contact the ditjen office, such as an email that works, could you please share it?

Yes , just wait and don't worry , there will be no overstay fine (see Regulation below) .

Article 180 of PerMen no.22 Year 2023 - free translation :
Applications for changing the status of an ITAS to an ITAP that have been submitted and immigration fees have been paid before the end of ITAS period, there will be no overstay if the completion of the change in status of the Residence Permit exceeds the period of the ITAS.

When I messaged via the chat thing they're the ones who had told me 8 working days after payment.

I remember when I first did my Kitas I had to physically go to Jakarta and ask and then only they hit the button. The security guard told us it had been approved a month before but they forgot to mark it on the computer

Update: the 8 days that was quoted has officially come and passed. I guess it's just the waiting game like usual.

Hopes are thrashed but at least I finished fixing my motorcycle. My three month project turned into two determined days.

Just went through passport control with a Kitap and now you just use the machine. No immigration officer checks the passpor, there's no stamp, and nobody asks you to show them a Kitap. Same on arrival. Amazing!
It's been like that in Bali and Jakarta since at least December. I much prefer the autogate. It's probably saved me at least 8 pages in my passport traveling between here and Malaysia.

In other news, no news. Talked to the Mido, they said should take 5-7 days after resubmitting documents. That's gone and passed. So we talked to imigrasi Bandung who said they sent our paperwork to Jakarta on the 20th (they are really adamant about waiting exactly 4-5 working days to see what you've submitted)

So now it's just the waiting on confirmation game

Any news on yours yet?

I really don't want to wait another 2 -3 months again and then have to go to Jakarta for them to hit a button 🥹

Just on 3 months for my Alhi Status / Conversion Kitas to Kitap in 2021 . Constantly showed being processed on the online status check . They were back in Jember 3 days later after I contacted the Director Generals Dept enquiring if there was a problem . Tunggu Sebentar , Besok , Nanti , seems to be a cultural excuse from management to the mail boy .

For someone relatively new here it is probably no big deal.
For those of us who have spent countless time for years waiting in passport control queues, facing aggressive or trick questions from passport officers, having to remember which extra cards and bits of paper to carry, getting passports filled up with pointless stamps, it is a huge change.

I never understood why they always had to ask so many questions if we already have a Kitas. So the autogate is a much welcome change for me.

I remember one time going through Kertajati the guy held me there for like 15 minutes just asking me random questions. Like he doesn't have any human interaction or something 😅

Too bad there were only 2 flights out to KL per week there and they cut that line completely.

I'm hoping they reopen Bandung for international flights and normal flights again. The 3-6 hour but ride to the airport is a pain

The questions were generally to try to get people to incriminate themselves so that they could then be fined \ deported etc. A common one would be admitting to doing some kind of work but not having the right visa for it, or maybe having planned to do some activity that is not allowed, or having a second passport.

I wonder if taking the passport officers out of the process was also to stop corruption, for example the cases recently where they extorted money from Chinese visitors.

That might be what they're trying to do. Same with the whole online only application.

I remember previously some immigration offices would offer "Express Service" if you'd used a runner(which was just actually following the timeline it said in the laws) But with the online it kinda forces you to not use runners.

Back in in like 2018 or 2019 they fired half of the immigration staff at the airport in Malaysia for taking bribes to let people in when they weren't supposed to be. Like fake passport and fake visa type stuff were being let in if they went to a certain counter at a certain time for such and such money kinda thing

Anywho just talked to the Mido again.
They have given me a different answer every time now.

This is the process they told me this time.

Proses konversi ITAS (Izin Tinggal Sementara) ke ITAP (Izin Tinggal Tetap) di Indonesia memerlukan waktu sekitar:

Waktu Proses

2. Pengajuan dokumen: 1-5 hari kerja.
3. Proses verifikasi: 10-30 hari kerja.
4. Wawancara: 1-3 hari kerja.
5. Pengambilan ITAP: 1-5 hari kerja.

Total Waktu Proses

1. Minimal: 14-30 hari kerja.
2. Maksimal: 60 hari kerja.

And this is being done in the age of Computers! Maybe they deliver the documents strapped to a Turtles back, or in a backpack on a Sloth, in between Offices! That's why it takes Sooo Long! 🙀🤪🐢🦥

Ok, as I understand this 10,200,000Rp is for 1 year right? So I assume multiply that by 5 is 51,000,000 for the five year permit? If I did it myself through immigration. Are you saying my agent might charge me 25Rp for 1 year Kitap, thus for 5 years he would ask 125,000,000Rp for the five year Stay permit? Sorry if my math is wrong. These numbers rattle my brain!
Why would the Kitap be so much more expensive?
NO . The 10,500,000rp is for the Kitas to Kitap conversion if done yourself , which is a 5 year Kitap 7,000,000rp and a 5year Merp 3,500,000rp . An agent might charge you 5 times that . So 5 x 10,500,000rp = 52,000,000rp .
