Indonesian anti-terrorism police killed three suspects after a gunfight at a house south of the capital, Jakarta, where a bomb was found, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

The raid came soon after Indonesian police had said they were interrogating 14 suspects after a series of arrests relating to planned suicide attacks in the capital, Jakarta, and elsewhere.
"During the raid, we tried to be careful but they threw something from inside the house and it was a bomb but it did not explode. Then they fired from inside," national police spokesman Rikwanto, who like many Indonesians uses only one name, told Metro TV.
Indonesian television footage showed a bomb squad officer wearing a blast-resistant suit entering the house in South Tangerang, as locals watched from behind a police tape.

"Inside the house we found a bigger bomb and now we are investigating it to try to detonate it," Rikwanto said.
He said one suspect had been found alive.
Ayi Supardan, a senior officer from South Tangerang police, said that, after initial interrogation of the suspect who was found alive, it appeared there was a plan to use the larger bomb at the end of the year.
There was no indication of any possible target.
Earlier on Tuesday, Indonesian police said they were interrogating 14 suspects related to planned suicide attacks in Jakarta and outside the most populous island of Java.

The suspects held over the planned Jakarta attack had been communicating with, and received money from, Bahrun Naim, an Indonesian militant known to be fighting with the Islamic State militant group in Syria, police have said.

I wonder at what point we start seeing random attacks against non Muslim individuals similar to lone wolf type attacks that have increased in other parts of the world. It would be very easy to drive a truck through a market in Indonesia.

But most of the people who use markets here are local Indonesian people with not much cash- so I doubt they would be the target.

That would be assuming terrorists have a brain. The vast majority of terrorism victims are poor Muslims. Go figure.

I went to Jakarta Car Free Day for the first time 2 weeks ago. Once there it occurred to me how easy it would be for one of the crazies to conduct a truck attack. I don't feel like going there anymore. Fucking depressing.

Nice job police. But you can not let the radicals strengthen on the one hand and expect long term safety. Such is the dangerous game some politicians play and some believe in more Islamic "control" of the nation.

They should be really careful for what they wish for

According to Adam’s confession, the bomb found in Puri Serpong was going to be used to attack a traffic police shelter near Eka Hospital in Serpong, South Tangerang.

The attackers reportedly planned to stab police officers at the station with knives to attract people’s attention, before detonating a suicide bomb.

That location is just down the road from where I live. I drive passed it every day to drop off my son to school.

and that is just letting fear /anxiety rule your life-that would be more depressing for me.

Yeah, it is depressing.

But remember (or not, maybe you don't know), I was born in Paris and I've lived and worked there. I also grew up in Nice. Both those places have been hit by the worst terrorist attacks France has seen. I know that the probability of getting hurt when I get in the car is higher, but it is seriously starting to eat at me. I guess parenthood does that as well: making me worried all the time.

Terrorists don't care who is sacrificed in their retribution. Fellow Muslims eating at a market which is known to harbor the occasional hungry Christian will be seen as nothing more than God's collateral damage.

My point being that here the malls will be targetted - as they have been.

I went for a hair cut today, right near where one attack was to be held. No one seemed too nervous. Right after the attack in Jakarta earlier this year there was a satay seller who did not run but was plying his trade. Of course it is terrible for those who lose their lives or worse suffer with injuries the rest of their lives. No one knows for sure when or where this could happen so the level of uncertainty is there and perhaps heightened if one has been affected by incidents in the past.
Overall I would say Indonesia is still quite safe. The biggest danger is to the poor by most of those running the country.
