This law is a joke, just for a specific use.
The extra marital affairs in the Missus kampung.....plenty stories. Just in the extended family there are 3 I am aware off.
Across different religions.
And I am just an ignorant bule !

I wouldn't call it a joke. The law keeps the religious people happy because they have a no sex outside marriage on the rule book. I thought it was quite clever how they wrote the law that the only people who can charge you for sex outside marriage is your parents/ children/ husband/ wife...because they are the only ones affected adversely and everyone else can mind their own business thank you very much.
I would prefer to have no law on this matter but this country is full people claiming to be very pious and so we get these laws....

I could be mistaken but I think that cohabitation law also needs the family to make a complaint - it cant be legally applied by neighbourhood gossips. But we know the police have been doing raids for years.

This is so funny, that a Country that has out of control corruption, with Judges hiding Billions of Rupiah under their beds, and Police Chiefs molesting Kids, Allowing Unqualified Doctors to Buy their Degrees, and Large corporations completely decimating the Jungles of Sumatra, and Kalimantan, to grow Palm oil, Etc! And using Plastic as a fuel to make Tofu, stupefying the People, with lack of a proper education, and Nutrition. Letting the Chinese, and Russians buy their way into controlling the infrastructure, of the Nation!
So, Now they want to be Morally Righteous and control who gets to have Sex! How are they going to enforce this Rule? Get everyone to Rat on each other? Force the Hotel industry to check all Quests marriage Certificates?
How about enforcing a Stop Polluting Indonesia with Plastic Law! Anyone caught throwing Plastic on the Ground, in the Rivers, Sea, or Burning it, be fined a million Rupiah, every time they get caught Polluting!

Not that I would join such a group... I'm just waiting for it to happen.

They get the media to tag along so everyone knows they are doing their jobs. The couple gets taken to the police station, they get lectured and sometimes sign a statement they they will never be naughty again. If one or both are married to someone else they may contact their spouse and see if they want to press charges. If so, they hold them otherwise they just let them go.

In some raids they are specifically targeting prostitution. They seem to never charge the females, only the male johns. It is the John's that must have some cash. The females are always said to be trafficked into their work. That includes a few well known celebrities who have a home in Jakarta that they go to every day.

Look at the gay parties that have been broken up. No charges, get behavior counseling and let go. How many in prison for being gay? None that I ever heard of.

It is everywhere. Gaja Mada U did a survey 8 or so years ago of married couples that has seemed to not be accessed any longer. At least I can not find it. I figure there are those that would not like this type of information out.
The survey, to the best of my recollection pretty much said that of married men, over 65% admitted to sexual relations outside their marriage.

Surprisingly, around 62%,of wives admitted to the same. That over half of each group having sex outside their marriage knew the other was too and many times knew the individuals involved. Some, not many reported their sex outside the marriage was with the same sex.

I pretty much contributed most of this with so many marriages being forced upon each spouse and then they find they are not compatible physically. They will keep family and peers happy and go about their happy marriage facade but once out of prying eyes, the fun begins.

No reason to be surprised. Still well to do ladies groups who auction off the young male servants. Last one I read busted was a group in Ache. A couple of them married to higher up police.

My wife got an email asking if she would be interested in starting a CFNM group. Clothed female, naked male. Said she got my wife's contact from an un named mutual friend. Wife figured out who that could have been but she denied it. Email gave a little description and explained how the popularity was spreading. Said to reply if wanted more info. My wife saidm WTF, and replied out of curiosity. Got an extensive reply explaining how to set up and what to expect. Who to contact about interest and lots of information. Said to write back for more info. My wife did not reply. Evidently there are groups all over filled with fully clothed females with naked males running around serving them as the women poke and humiliate them. She did say there was absolutely no sex. What anyone is involved with away afterwords is no one's business. Wife looked at me and knew right away I wouldn't attract anyone to join in.

My wife did say that there may be a good business idea in all this. A business where women could come and yell, scream, and humiliate men since society doesn't really allow that to happen. I believe she forgot about it after a while.

TBH last time I had one was in BKK 30 years ago.
And the number of "fun" I had was not in dozens but in 100's
Had a few dozen "fun" in HKG before the Missus moved in, and same, never caught anything.
Honestly you have higher chances of having a motorbike accident...
I had a colleague expat who caught one in BKK in the old days, and passed it on to his (Western) wife....a bit of diplomacy was needed but he blamed it on the hotel's swimming pool...
Anyway, you can't live in fear !

Besides that, it looks like she is working (creating content) on her tourist visa. Under Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, foreigners who misuse their visa can be punished with up to 5 years in prison and fines up to IDR 500 million

So much for the people that think the government was actually making a law just to overreach. They had a perfect chance to set an example, and they just let them walk.
