G'day everyone!

My name is Josh, I've spent the last 8 years without visiting the beloved Jakarta for a considerable amount of time. Only recently I've had a few changes in life and find myself wanting to move back. I've joined up to stay up to date with the latest information, as well as chatting with other expats.

I'm expected to finish my Bachelor of Education (Primary) next year, and will become a registered teacher here in Australia. I would like to see what options there may be for a qualified yet inexperienced teacher.

Anyway, look forward to seeing you all around!

Josh

None to unlikely
5 years experience mandatory requirement also dependant on your Nationality and specialist teaching subject, science, English, Maths etc etc

Wasn't aware of primary education having specialist subjects? Looks like the 5 years experience seems to be a common theme when looking at certain schools (edit: visa requirement?). Perhaps I'll be doomed to the franchise English centres until experience is up to expections.

Ok maybe not for primary but stiff on the 5 years
And keep well away from the Wall Street etc type of places here
No legal work visa means deportation and fine

I thought that might be the case - and I guess even those types of places require the same visa as what an International and National Plus school would require? Thanks for the advice - much appreciated. Thankfully I haven't turned 30 yet so my best bet may be to get some experience in Australia. I do really miss Indonesia though! Lucky a 6 month break over there doesn't cost too much!

I'm well aware of the cost of living in Jakarta, I guess that area is quite subjective. But agree, it has gone up from when I was living there. Bali is not my cup of tea.

In reference to the visa business - went straight to the source.

So I'd assume teachers who don't meet that critiera are either working illegally or have jumped through some hoops?

Not sure what where when your source is

But yes
5 years
Caveat emptor for those that don't. hence they give you the day off when Immigrasi do the raids
But nowadays you just won't get the visa anyway

Peraturan Pelaksanaan Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 34 Tahun 2021 Tentang Penggunaan Tenaga Kerja Asing - https://peraturan.bpk.go.id/Home/Details/171228/permenaker-no-8-tahun-2021 (replaced Permenaker No. 10 Tahun 2018)

That seems like the common theme - people could get away with more a few years back. So visa issues are actually following policies and imigrasi is quite strict?

Very
They even send undercover agents to your residence or ask security what time you leave every day, what you wearing, carrying etc

Here on a tourist visa? Where you go every day at 8a.m with a suit and briefcase ?

Now less bule here easier to spot one
And many indonesian Ojek or streetcleaner happy to grass you up for 100rb

Welcome Josh. Wish you all the best to find your teaching job in Indonesia
