I have read a few stories regarding American expats getting nervous in Moslem majority countries , and making exit strategies , it must be pretty unpleasant because of " Herr trumps" statements ,and potential incendiary effects on the radical elements .

I would be concerned, especially for mixed marriage folks as there may be difficulties bringing their WNI spouse and children to the US in the future.

Back in 2005 I got hasseled so much trying to enter the US on *transit* eventhough neither my nationality nor Indonesia was on NSEERS. But an overzealous border official felt the need to add me manually on to NSEERS, which they can on a whim...

I stopped going to the US then until NSEERS was abolished.

With the current situation I do not see myself travelling to the US.

Makes me nervous & I don't have any family connections to the US, just being a global citizen is enough for concern whilst such exclusionary(? ist?) policies are being touted.

I am not personally worried much, though I think that may say as much about my temperament as it does about Trump. I'm incredibly worried on behalf of other people, though. And I feel sick about what kind of a world my son is going to inherit.

My only personal/selfish concern is that Trump will ruin the economy just as we are retiring, and our savings will disappear, leaving us broke, old and with no job possibilities. That's not anywhere close to happening right now, of course. And I don't fret about it much, because it probably won't happen and if it does, well...then we'll just have to cope like everyone else.

I guess things could get so bad that people with our history (between Indonesia and Egypt, we've spent over 2 decades in predominantly Islamic countries) are banned/harrassed somehow, but even in my wildest dreams I can't see that happening.

My concern: Trump will so poison international relations that retaliation will close off many countries, including Indonesia, to US travelers. Not only will it be essentially impossible for Indonesian members of our family to visit us in the USA, it will be impossible for us to get a visa to visit Indonesia.

Angry parochial white white men afraid of the world and suspicious of cultures they do not understand are the arbitrators of US foreign policy.
