Wonders and curiosities

Please don't call me a liar
I lost 35kg in 3 months
10kg a month +/-
They put my photo in FF
Losing 500g a day is not hard
I was 120kg
My lowest was 79kg
Now I'm about mid 90's
I stuck to juices and soups
Just did mild cardio at the gym
I'm not gym buff. No weights
Just walk 2km 8kmh every day
No rice. Nothing bulky that sticks
Just fluids. Not rocket science

A high protein diet might help you to lose another 5 - 8 kg. Protein shakes, meat and salmon. This because the digestine of protein costs more energy. https://www.healthline.com/

Yes that's what Mr Atkins said before he died of a heart attack

Nobody called you a liar. Everybody's body is different and if you are able to burn around 4.000 calories a day (3.000 + 1.000? from soups and juices) by doing only mild exercise, that is great.

On average a man needs/burns around 2.500 calories a day. If someone wouldn't eat anything at all, this energy would be obtained from burning fat. This is around 300gr of bodyfat per day.

I know, this is very much simplified, but it gives a bit of an idea what someone can expect on average.

A famous example of this is Angus Barbierie who fasted for 392 days and only drank drinks like water, tea and coffee. He lost 125kg in this period which is around 320gr/day.

There is no way someone can loose 390gr of body fat a day for a period of 90 days with little effort.

I think you have a little secret. But that's okay.

Please clarify this then?
"There is no way" ?

Well there is a way. Obviously

Well, being able to run a 3.000+ caloric deficit for a period of 90 days without significant exercise is clearly unusual, albeit not impossible if you are 2.10m tall. But doing that with little effort? No, I don't think so.

I didn't call you a liar. I just don't believe your story until you can explain it.

It can be done with cardio: running or jogging on top of e.g. Atkins diet. Many studies show that: Moderate-intensity jogging (including short or long distances), high-intensity running (variable running, uphill running, sprinting or HIIT combined with running) are remarkably effective. significantly in reducing belly fat, even without changing the diet.

Yeah, Jim Kick was maybe the biggest advocate for jogging. At least until he died of a heart attack while jogging. He was already in great shape at least on the outside. You do realize that all that bouncing while running, jogging, sprinting is somewhat knocking around things internally. If you think everything is in a fixed location or connected to springs you are very much mistaken. Walking is better than beating up your insides.

Well here is someone who was not keen on beating up his insides by jogging. Herman Kahn regarded as one of the great intellects of the 20th century. He died at 61.

Soups salads and juices, no solids
Yeh now Caspar is not so busy, everyone is upstairs in Cafe Cal
Basque still super busy but his new place FooFoo opens soon - in Rasuna Said - Thai version of Basque
M Bar was for after Altitude or before Cloud
Now I am to be seen in St Regis, quiet and classy like me lol but please don't all come there because its small and then no where for me to sit lol
Went to the St Regis jazz bar the other day. Hotel is certainly an upgrade from when it was the 4 seasons, even though the bar was empty. Good to see they still have a huge Rolls Royce in the basement, that hotel and the neighbouring apartments were always famous for the expensive car collections.

Oh sure, you can burn quite a few calories by exercising. Just look at cyclists during the Tour de France. They burn an average of about 6,000 kCal per stage. But these are top athletes, animals, who make an enormous effort.
If we mere mortals ran for an hour a day (imagine that!) and lifted weights in the gym for another hour, we might burn an extra 1,000 kCal, only a bit more than 100 grams of body fat.
Following a diet that suits you is therefore the key to losing weight. Preferably a diet that becomes part of your lifestyle, such as intermittent fasting where you skip a meal, or other types of diet. Otherwise, you'll be left yo-yoing.
If you can lose 2kg a month by skipping breakfast, this doesn't sound like much. But if you can stick to it, consider how much weight you can lose in a year.

Yes, I know it is human nature, but in Indonesia 'gengsi' is institutionalized in society. Status is everything here. Indonesia still has 'strata'.

That's why status is very important. In this thread some posts mentioned that Indonesians will look at you in a funny way when you e.g. make your own house repairs. That's "tukang kerja's" work.

Here women, more than in other countries, all want to be seen with Louis Vuitton or better Dior or even more better a Birkin bag. Women (pribumi) want to marry a bule. Status! The dogs people have, are just status symbols. An Apple phone has a higher status than a Samsung phone. Going abroad on vacation is all about status. Photo, photo more important than actually minikmati the view. Driving a luxery Japanese car has more status than ordering a Grab. Going by bus? Pff, no way! The location of your house? Jakarta South? Wah, anak gaul! Sending your anak-anak to private school or even better International school. And later when they marry, harus .. a big wedding ceremony in a hotel with 500 guest. Photo, photo, photo. Having a Rolex watch. Playing golf, all about status. Just for photo aja. Lihat saya, keren! Which arisan do you attend? Ada yang Rp.50.000, ada yang 50 juta. And the women who attend the 50 juta warisan, all dress up and wear their Prada shoes and show off their Louis Vuitton bags.

Ask anybody here in Indonesia about 'gengsi'. Or better ask your wife, she can explain gengsi to you and then you will understand why she wants to have a landed house, why she wants a Hermes bag or why she wants a Gucci watch. To show off her status.

I live on top of a luxery mall. I see the "pseudo middle class" visit the mall on Saturnday and Sunday with their anak-anak not buying anything, makan di Solaria atau Bami GM. Just to be seen. And I am thinking "What are you doing here in the mall with all your children? This mall is not a good environment/ place for children". But then again, going to the mall is all about status.
Tons of truth in what you write here. I don't say similar things don't excist ib some way in other countries but it's really special and fully fleshed out in Indonesia.
People here really give you strange looks when you do things that are supposedly beneath your supposed status haha. That starts with small things like doing most things yourself when you are a bule. What? You clean your own housefront? What? You clean your house and don't have a maid? What? You even put big bags of animal food into your car alone?
What? You didn't send your kid to an expensive international private school? You don't throw trash out of the car (ok, doesn't totally fit but i har to mention it).😂😂
And so on, and rhese are only a few things and examples...

Ps: i know these things from richer circles in other countries but not that extreme from the middle class.

Yup, if one lives here in Indonesia -without fully understanding 'gengsi' as one of the main drivers for Indonesians to act the way they do- then one will keep wondering "why?".

Would you say that this has gotten better or worse with younger generations or did it stay the same?

Personally Iam not able to answer that. I definitely agree with this gengsi phenomenon but I was lucky enough to also meet a lot of "authentic" people here, including my wife.
I feel like the younger generation is definitely a lot into extreme consume behavior and having an image. Which is of course not surprising on one side. Most of use wanted to be cool at some point.
Social media just multiplied all of that in an extreme way.

That could be the hypothesis "social media as the multiplier of gengsi". Wouldn't be suprised that it is true. Why? Before internet and social media people see only the ones around them, like "Wow, the neighbor bought a new car, mau juga". One time getting annoyed not having what others have.

Nowadays, people see continously pictures and videos on social media of others having a luxurious life. Constantly being reminded that they have a shitty life compared to the others. That combined with the "status comparing behaviour in Indonesia" ... social media brings out the worst in them.

I didn't jog. Too much impact on joints.
I was on the treadmill walking at 8kmh for 15 mins every day
I drank juices from rejuve
Ate soups and salads
Any solid food was light easily digestible like white fish steamed
No beef or steaks
Eat tomato and cucumber. It fills you up, it's healthy and makes you pee a lot so you don't gain weight

I didn't lift weights or use protein shakes or anything. I have hundreds of pics before during and after and even a before / after poster they made of me in FF Lotte

As for St Regis, the rolls belongs to Peter's wife Mrs Rajawali. It's usually in the lobby forecourt B3SJW

The main architecture is the same of course, basically they gutted the old 4Seasons and refurbished it
The bar is ok. Nautilus at the "new" 4S is nicer bar to look at "prettier"
But busier in the STR

Awful design though. You can smoke and all the smoke gets sucked up the middle opening up the glass trumpet lights and the vent into JJA restaurant above so that now stinks of cigars from the bar below chimney affect

The basement parking of 4S apartments opposite is the one full of super luxury hyper cars all covered up with no number plates and no tax paid. Half the apartments are empty these days
