I am in Jakarta today with nothing interesting to do... any suggestions of where to go or what to see?

I have already been to Kota Tua, and to Monas
Malls I have visited- MOI, Central Park, Casablanca, Pacific, Grand Lippo Kemang... and many others.
I know Rasuna Said area like the back of my hand...
Is there anything of interest worth me bothering to go out?
Any events/ exhibitions?

(I am not interested in spas, gyms, painted nails or cosmetics or fashion, I am interested in science, technology, history)
x thanks in advance

I'm cutting and pasting the list I gave my cousin and his wife when they visited - ignore the stuff that doesn't interest you or you've done already. Also keep in mind this list is about 4 years old, so may not be totally up to date.

Oh Pusp, what a lovely long list to peruse. Thank you.

I will be around Sunday afternoon & Saturday evening (possibly)

What area are you heading to? The old house (I am not far from there now) or somewhere new? (pm if you don't want to say in public :) )

The Museum of Modern Art is new and popular. Sorry don't know where it is though. Lots of people rave about it .

Not so sure I am into modern art, some of it is just plain weird- I visted the Tate one in the UK & left feeling confused as to why it was labelled art. (I must be getting old :D )
Now, fill a room with Monet, Manet, Rembrant, Caravaggio and such like & I would happily linger there for hours :)

Or Merlot, Pinot, Cabernet?

Lucky me, I stayed in & ordered a new phone online, paid for same day delivery via GoJek,
It still hasn't arrived - there is some sort of jinx on me with online shopping in this country haha.

& Thanks pinky re the traditional music & dance idea...

Personally, I would rather stab my eyeballs out with a fork, it really does my head in. I hear enough of it at weekends up in the village... but at least there we have the amplifiers & AC/DC or Death metal to drown it out a bit :) x

If we were in town, I would say come over for dinner. We will be back a bit after mid-June through mid-August; keep those dates in mind for when you are back in the Jakarta with you husband in tow. He knows where the house is located.

Thank you Waarmie. & yes, I am not too far from your place either... 10km or so. :)

Old house for now, helping hubby move into an apartment in the Blok M area next week.

The army Musuem is pretty interesting and good for a few hours

Be a tad careful of visiting without checking if you're allowed in. I know the Satriamandala Museum requires WNA visitors to get a pass before they're allowed to enter. Indonesians are free to visit without a pass but, even if you have to get one, it's worth a trip.

Is there a reason for not allowing to respond to an old thread?

Yesterday I visited the Museum Bank Indonesia and Museum Bank Mandiri.
Interesting to see how orang belanda had an effect on the development of the bank industry in Indonesia.

It started with the VOC, as an interprise, colonizing Indonesia. Then later the Dutch as a nation took over. Never realized that.

oh man, I'd be here as much as I could if I were in Jakarta instead of the cultural desert where I 'live'...and I use the phrase 'live' with some reservations.
