Exactly - even for a full intensive residential course I dont think you can even do it in a weekend? Even just the dives - theres a lot of homework and theory and tests to complete, not just the dives. I know in Bali they do these PADI Discovery dives where you can dive to max 10m with some instructions but thats not open water diver:

How long does a PADI Open Water course take?
It's possible to complete your confined and open water dives in three or
four daysby completing the knowledge development portion online via PADI eLearning, or other home study options offered by your local dive shop or resort.

Section 1 - Knowledge Development - (6 - 10 hours)
PADI’s Open Water Diver materials cover everything you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. This part of the course can be completed online allowing you the flexibility to complete all academic components of the course at your own pace at home before you come to Bali or even from the comfort of your hotel, resort or villa once you arrive.
Section 2 - Pool Training - (1 day)
Now that you have an understanding of the basic principles of scuba diving, it's time to meet your instructor. On the first morning of your course we will review your online learning and answer any questions you may have. During the PADI confined water dives you will learn the basic scuba skills that you will use for the rest of the course in the ocean.
Section 3 - Open Water Dives - (2 Days)
It's time for your first underwater experience on a real dive site.Now its time to review your skills learnt on the previous day and take time to explore the ocean! Your instructor will take you to a dive sites that are safe, secure, easy and bursting with marine life. Your last dives will be to a maximum of 18 meters, have a minimal time spent on skills with the main focus on fun exploration.
