The author of this article tries to persuade us that "higher Japanese interest rates will pressure the rupiah, wobble corporate debt markets and push the nation closer to China."

I don't agree with the comment that Indonesia's EV vehicle battery production is "the most critical area" for a geo-economic shift, but the article provides some things to ponder.

I'm not really into politics, but I watched a few youtube videos on the subject of geopolitical influence factories.
On there, they suggested a method of determining the truth of any given story is to look at the author.

Ronny P Sasmita seems to be involved with the Carnegie endowment for international peace and Indonesia Strategic and Economics Action groups.
In turn, they appear to be funded by US groups including something called the International republican institute and the NED (Not sure what that is) that seems to have been closed down by Trump. Both of these seem to be funded by the US government.
Some of this came from AI so could well be in error, however, if the above is true, there would be far too much political influence for the story to be accepted at face value.

That's the sum total of my political comments for the 2025 - and they could well be wrong.

I read that article yesterday and as you, I don't agree with the dramatization.
John's post give a very possible explanation.
Don't forget the US is not happy seeing Indonesia having a close relationship with China. And they are capable of everything. See Venezuela...
