British Passport Renewal - Pleasantly Surprised

@ nosox Why did you have to collect it? They usually DHL it directly to you?

@snpark delivery was not presented as an option in Indonesia. When I was in Canada it was all done via registered mail

Unless it has changed, I renewed a passport last year and it was DHL'd back to my residence directly, I actually even got it less than a week after I had applied through Kun city VFS, all very quick, like I said, that same day I got emailed a DHL # of my app going to Liverpool, then 2 days later an email with a new DHL awb for the new pp coming back, and I tracked it and it was here and in my hands 48hours later directly.

It's interesting to see how some embassies improve their services to their citizens over the years while other totally screw.

I remember a decade ago, UK citizen complaining on how difficult it was to renew an UK passport (I think I recall it had to be sent in Hong Kong and was back after a few weeks).

At that time it was a breeze for me to do my kids passport or to renew mine when it was full. I was sending the docs with tiki or dropping it anytime I was in jkT and the consul or some embassy employees coming for diving in manado was delivering it to me here. That was the great days.

Now, my kids have to go to Jakarta to apply and go again to get it delivered. I can't do it for them! The french embassy even destroyed a new passport for me (because I did not come to pick it up in time and because they can not send it by registered mail), while the old one was expired, and I had to pay again for it!

Yes years ago you had to go to the British consulate (in the Mercedes tower 17lt) and they would process it through HK and then UK and then back, now its all outsourced through VFS Kun city but it does seem quicker. BTW UK has decided to return to the old blue passports and apparantly from next year all the new issued ones will be the old blue colour and you can apply to change your existing one too. I might do that next year so I have 1 blue and 1 red

£72.50 for .... changing the cover of the passport? Any other benefits?

Hahahaha well some countries have different colours for VIP, Diplomats etc etc so the confusion might be beneficial

Cheers, was there a fee involved and was it straightforward?
You were talking about transferring a KITAS/P into a new passport. Was it really that easy... just appear with said passport and KITAS/P? I find it difficult to believe KanIm would pass up an opportunity to request I present five meaningless pages of documentation (that they already have) in triplicate (refusing the secondary and tertiary copies, of course).

I see you guys already confirmed earlier in the tread, but I just thought I'd check again. I hate to see that smile government employees have when they tell me I need more or different documents...

I've just renewed my British Passport and I'm pleasantly surprised. All in all it has taken 7 working days including the day of submission. During submission they told me 4-6 weeks.

To break the process down:

Friday July 15th July - Application submitted at Kuningan City Mall and couriered to Liverpool the same day.

Monday 17th July - The fee of £114.01 was debited from my credit card.

Friday 21st July - I got an SMS from DHL informing me the new passport had been dispatched from the UK.

Monday 24th July - Delivered by DHL at Midday and an email from the application centre at 4:30pm saying I can collect at my convenience.

For once something has gone smoothly for me and not involved pain and exasperation. :)

hello there, I am john Windust, at the moment I am living in Batam Island and I need my passport renewed A S A P , due to my Visa extension, would you please inform me how did you do it step by step please.

Started my passport renewal process 3 weeks ago. Credit card already debited.
Received an email today from Liverpool to say photos not enclosed. I know they were as I have the receipt from VFS in Kunungan.

So need to go back to VFS and give them more photos and hope these are not lost "in the post".

So just a warning that this new system, that you have to pay extra for, is not so perfect.

Unless it was urgent you should have waited until November for the new passports. From Nov on they don't say "EU" on them
And from 2020 they will be the new blue ones

I'm holding off renewing both of mine until 1 at the end of the year and the other one next year (I have 2, both filling up rapidly)

Depends how petty you are like me to be different. Lol

Well ... assuming that the UK leaves the EU on 31 October. The betting odds of that happening are only 30% at the moment.

No Sir. The passport situation is already confirmed that new passports issued after 31 Oct will not have "European Union" on the cover. And blue ones issued next year

Ok fair enough. Anyway the "blue" ones are actually black, not blue. I have 1 here next to me. It is jet black, not even the slightest hint of blue. I have no idea why people describe it as blue.
