1. except for China, which sensibly uses metres not feet...

2. What did you do for CX Davita? (or your wife) as it seems you have retiree flight bennies?

1.That's true, including Russia, but I try to keep explanations simple. The metres are converted from feet. Western built aircraft altimeters are in feet.
2. I flew for CX for 16 years and my wife was a Flight Attendant for 10 years.
We both get retiree travel benefits for life.

Ah - those were the days... (of A scales) It is now 20 or 25 years required (20 years gets you bennies at 55, 25 years as soon as you leave) Like an idiot, I left with 19 years, so get nothing, but I had had enough (and the feeling was mutual...:) ) Was ground staff, including 5 years based in Indonesia

I heard the airline went down the tube after I left (June 1990)....:sorry:

How only 49 people were injured and nobody died with a fuselage that beat up is quite amazing.

Around 49 people are injured after an Embraer E190 aircraft crashed into a field in northwest Mexico at around 4:00 p.m. local time, according to multiple news reports on Tuesday.
Durango state Gov. Jose Aispuro noted that the plane hit a gust of wind as it lifted off the tarmac, forcing the pilot to abort the procedure. Aispuro added that it was still too early to determine the exact cause of the crash, The Associated Press reported.

Air Asia to start KL-Silangit route.

JAKARTA, 2 August 2018 - AirAsia is expanding its Asean footprint with four weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA2) to Silangit Airport in Tapanuli, North Sumatra, Indonesia, beginning 28 October 2018.

Silangit Airport is the main gateway to the magnificent Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in Asean and one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

An Indonesian pilot for Batik Air and an pilot for Bangladesh's Regent Air were arrested at Halim PK airport for possession of Meth. The first pilot, identified by his initials "BC", is also a flight examiner for the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation. Further, it is alleged that the other pilot, identified by his initials "GS" brought the drugs as a bribe so that he would pass his examination.

GS confessed to the police that he had brought the meth, which weighed 0.8 grams, to be given as a gift to BC, who is his flight examiner. GS, who is an Indonesian national. GS is reportedly required to have his license validated in Indonesia once every six months, even though he works abroad.

Jean added that the police also found evidence of drug paraphernalia at both GS and BC’s homes in Jakarta. According to him, the two are being charged with violating articles of Indonesia’s strict drug laws that carry maximum penalties of life imprisonment or the death penalty.

I just wonder how many others have manged to manipulate the Indonesian pilot licence system and are in the air somewhere.
IMO It's time for the International body IATA to investigate the Indonesian aircrew training system from top to bottom.
A good start would be to require all pilots who have passed their recent tests by this inspector to be re-tested.

edit: Apologies...I mentioned IATA above but, my memory was tweeked by Anglian's further post...I should have said ICAO.
Both are International agencies but they have different functions. ICAO is the UN agency funded to check licences and technical matters.

It is working for not only flight crews, as I described in a previous thread the corruption involved in the engineers licensing, I did hear rumors about a flight training school of the flight cadets fiddling their pilots licenses, it’s a real jar of worms

Further to above, I worked with a real great American engineer who was an ex FAA inspector and now worked for ICAO, he came and inspected the engineering facility I had set up, he only found one discrepancy, which was the wording I had used in the company exposition, anyway we sat down and had a chat about a particular airlines tech log records, I would go back 4 months and review all the defects and attempted rectification, most rectification was a joke, so armed with this the ICAO inspector, requested a meeting with the airline management with the DGAC also in attendance, to cut a long story short, result nothing, my friend a total professional was extremely upset and returned to the states, me I pressed on turning out fully serviceable Aircraft, but I eventually could see the writing on the wall and I resigned, I could write a book about some of the airline practices here, there seems a total lack of understanding on aircraft maintenance and safety, it’s unreal

Can't decide whether I am more concerned with pilots bribing examiners to pass, or with pilots being meth addicts.

Eh, I'll just fly SQ....:becky:

I wholeheartedly agree...it would be something for an examiner to take a cash bribe but when I heard they were all meth-takers for years and the Minister hasn't had a clue it IS time the International body did some serious investigation of Indonesia's Ministry of Aviation (Transport).

If this happened in Japan there would be a cornucopia of hari-kari rituals.

In my day we were obliged to report if anyone was showing signs of drugs. My wife (Flight Attendant) went to a crew get-together at an outstation and told me later one of the flight-crew (a pal of mine) was seen smoking pot and would be operating next morning. I had no hesitation to report the facts to our Director of Flight Operations...I also hate snitches but sometimes taking a responsibility is primary to all other emotions.
The guy was given an opportunity to go for a drug withdrawal course, paid for by the Company...which he did, and totally rehabilitated.

Thank god the guy only took himself out. That could have been much much worse.

According to Sky news the NASA launch to the Sun was cancelled 2 minutes before launch, bit of a disappointment

Received SMS from emirates last week:

"Your flight EK356 from Dubai to Jakarta has changed terminal. The new arrival terminal is now Soekarno- Hatta International Airport Terminal 3. This terminal change is effective on all flights on or after 07August2018. You can view and print your new ticket on www.emir

Actually my flight landed at terminal 2, not terminal 3.
I didn't notice there was another SMS said they still use terminal 2. Apparently many airline or probably the airport still not fully ready.

When I flew Singapore Airlines in June, they to departed and arrived at T2. Fast forward to the end of July and flying to Singapore with Air Asia, they were T3.

In terms of the set up for immigration, I prefer T2. They at least have a line for KITAS holders. T3 has just two lines, Indonesians and Forgianers.
