Free useful tool to improve your Indonesian.

Whatever formal training and education, you will never learn a language when not speaking it with a native speaker. Immersion is everything. Seen so many people who thought they would learn BI, German, French, Mandarin and Dutch in courses or training and only got the theoretical basics and...

Should work & school be suspended tomorrow?

Everybody always gets nervous. Esp. in Chinese areas. Luckily PIK is far away and in Kelapa Gading they applied 9.000 policemen extra.

Proposal to increase the parking charge up to Rp60k for cars and up to Rp15k per hour for motor bike !!!

Pff, in cities as Amsterdam and NYC it’s 10x more expensive to park. And sorry, but I’m not against upping parking rates at all. That might finally halt the ‘californian dream’ a bit over here that everybody should have their own car(s), as well as stimulate public transportation. Getting sick...

    Mobil Rakyat...new cars

In the US it’s built in Alabama. Just like the Santa Fe and some Genesis models. I never see that luxury brand Genesis here (anymore). At the time they were used by the Jokowi government in Bali for the international guests of the G20 summit. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 which was also used, you see...

    Mobil Rakyat...new cars

There is a completely new model of the Hyundai Tucson announced. Which got a big refresh in ‘24 so it still does have a ‘new’ status. Not a very popular car in Indonesia, they only sold like 100 per year. The Santa Fe does much better, easily times ten. The latter which is much bigger and more...

    Credit card for foreigner

Bank Indonesia (BI) officially introduced and launched the Kartu Kredit Indonesia (KKI) for the retail and general consumer public yesterday so on August 17, 2026, coinciding with Indonesia's Independence Day. So after the launch of the Government Credit Card (KKP Domestik) for state and...

You May Still Get a PC With Old Price

Tablets like an iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab completely meet our needs (together with the smartphones of course). Unlike a couple of years ago, the banking and tax* software (e.g. Coretax) work well even for PDF with digital signatures, as long as desktop mode is selected. Notes: The only PC’s...

    Tax planning for US Expat

It doesn’t really work like that, for them it’s easy to search on name and/or DOB if there is no NPWP. Local financial institutions in another country have no idea about the NPWP in Indonesia. They use a local tax ID and just collect financial account data from non-resident account holders and...

    Independence Day

Coincidence or not, but this year there was a stronger push in the kompleks to hang the 🇮🇩 flag. By messages from RT/RW in WA groups and SatPam. If there are houses that don’t have the flag, they can expect a visit from officials. Unlike in many other countries it’s not only for today but for...

That’s expensive. In Jakarta we pay on average 75K per split unit. In Bali that’s 100K.

Free meals for children (MBG) is it good as intended ??

Not so much to do with the topic, but the Indonesian(s) officials love to work with numbers. Which have practically no meaning and are created by huge spreadsheets and thousands of uncontrollable inputs and forms. A nice example is the reporting on the progress of infrastructure. During a visit...

    Tax planning for US Expat

I have transferred a lot to different Indonesian bank accounts, never issues even with bigger (>€100K) amounts. Having said that, I do avoid sending large sums to accounts where the holder has no tax ID. I know quite some people -as Harry and Balifrog- who have no tax ID and live fulltime in the...

    Tax planning for US Expat

:focus: Anyway, we’re talking US here, right? As far as I know the United States’ Foreign Tax Accounting Act (FATCA) is somewhat of a one way stream and not really reciprocal. Unlike ECD's Common Reporting Standard (CRS) which most other countries have adopted. So with the lack of an...

Not Less Than 23% Wrong in This AI Evaluation

Remember the recent scandals with the trading robots (automated forex and crypto sw) that operated in Indonesia? Even a lot of ‘sensible’ people in my family in law that -unlike back then- don’t want to talk about it anymore. It’s amazing what they lost to these fake tech and Ponzi schemes.

Dual citizenship, how likely is it?

Well there would be a rush in the DPR to become members of Commissions XIII (constitutional affairs) and X (sports). But hey, there is no official you can buy in Indonesia [sic] !! :nono:

    Tax planning for US Expat

To the OP; I do agree with SNPark’s assessment the ‘doing nothing’ might be best in your case and not that risky. If you’re going the ex-WNI path it might work out a bit different in the end. Someone like @Banana72 would know.
