I haven't done these before, are they only for entry, or also for exiting the country?

Last month September ... didn't work for me and had to queue at the 'manual imigrasi' booth with my passport.

I arrived at terminal 2 last week (from abroad) and tried to use the e-gate because the "foreigner" queue was LONG and they wouldn't let me use it. Seems like some staff need to be updated.

Been through it many many times for the past 3-4 months. In and out. Couple of times it didn't work but I moved to another machine and it was fine

Same for me. Sometimes you have to try twice, but generally it works well both entering and leaving the country

When I have tried to use the auto gates in the past I had not been successful and had to go to the Kitap immigration line. That was much quicker than the general tourist lines. I have "permanent Kitap" and wonder with the various recent changes if I might succeed in using the autogate? I will be out and then back in to indonesia later this year.

I now no longer live permanently in Indonesia. So I use evisas on arrival. The auto gates normally work fine although sometimes it takes two goes to get through. One strange thing during my current visit. When I extended my 30 day visa online, I had to go to the Immigration Office to have my photo taken. My son had the same experience. Normally the uploaded photo is sufficient
